Today, Haste The Day bassist Mike Murphy announced that the band's current 12 Days Of Christmas Tour will be original drummer Devin Chaulk's last with the band. Below is Mike's announcement along with a letter from Devin...
Hey everyone,It's Mike here, checkin in! So we just got done playing some shows abroad. Thank you Australia and Germany for being so amazing to us! We've had one day off and we leave tomorrow for the 12 days of Christmas tour! That tour will be alot of fun, so make sure to wear your favorite christmas sweater....you know we will! The 12 days of Christmas Tour will also be very special because it will be Devin's final tour. We will all miss him so much! Obviously he was an incredible drummer and musician, but what we will miss most about him is his friendship on the road. Over the past 6 years, Devin has acquired the role of tour dad to Haste The Day and we all want to thank him for always taking care of his boys.
But don't worry, Haste The Day is still going strong. . When Brennan, Devin, and I started Haste The Day in 2001, God gave us a clear vision of where He wanted to take this band. We are still focused on spreading His light and love to a world that is in dire need of both. Although we have faced many changes over the years, we know that we need to keep going. Its not just the individual members that make up HTD, it the greater message that hold us all together. With each change in Haste The Day, God breathes new life and hope into our hearts.
We are so grateful to all of our friends and fans for their undying support. You guys make this possible. We got some awesome things lined up for 2009 that we are excited about!
Here is a note from Devin. He wanted to say something to everyone that has made his time in HTD special:
"Hey guys, Devin here. After much prayer and consideration, I have decided to leave Haste The Day. The last 8 years of my life have been full of challenge, joy and great reward as I have realized many dreams while touring the globe with my very best friends. I am thankful to God and my brothers in HTD that I could be a part of it. My departure is not for ill will, lack of desire or even old age. (Even though I AM getting old). I am leaving Haste The Day to better fulfill my calling as a husband and pursue a career in full-time ministry. My wife has been an avid supporter of my ministry in Haste The Day, but I believe it is time for me to move into a season where we can serve together, rather than apart. My brothers in HTD are continuing on, and I am confident this will be nothing more than a bump in the road for them. The "12 Days of Christmas" will be my last tour with the band, so I encourage people to come hang out and be a part of it. Even more than this, I encourage you to continue to support HTD as they continue their journey. I would like to thank those who have supported us over the years, whom I prefer to call "friends," rather than "fans." Also many thanks to Solid State Records, Mark Lafay our manager and my best friends in Haste The Day."
There you have it everyone. We have a few prospective drummers but we are still looking. If you have tour experience and can play Devin's parts, please send our manager an email with your info, where you are from, what you've done, etc. etc. to marklafay@gmail.com
Thanks everyone! See you on the 12 days of Christmas tour!
